Newcastle set to miss out on £5m target this summer, but he could still make loan move – Romano.

Newcastle United could become involved in an interesting transfer saga this summer with Paris Saint-Germain set to buy back Xavi Simons from PSV but despite that his future is still up in the air.

Recently The Daily Mail linked Newcastle, along with Arsenal, as having an interest in young Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons but said that they’d face competition from PSG who sold him to PSV the year before.

PSG inserted a £5.1million buy-back clause into his deal, and after seeing his value sky rocket they have decided to exercise that clause.

Xavi Simons could be available for loan after returning to PSG

Xavi Simons is under no obligation to accept the offer, unlike PSV, but it seems that he’s opted to return to Paris to try and force his way into the first team according to Fabrizio Romano.

In Romano’s tweet he says there are two options facing Xavi when he returns and one could see him put up for loan which could be good news for Newcastle. Romano said: “BREAKING: Xavi Simons has left PSV camp to sign with Paris Saint-Germain! PSG triggered €6m buy back clause, as revealed days ago” before going on to explain the likely outcomes.

Newcastle would be mad to pass up the opportunity to sign Xavi Simons

The futures of both Kylian Mbappe and Neymar are far from certain and Xavi will be hoping to capitalise on that situation, but it seems that PSG are covering their bases should they not be able to move on the two big name stars.

If Xavi finds himself being offered up for loan Newcastle could jump at that chance. With all the noises coming out of the club around FFP and how difficult it is to navigate this transfer window, a loan move for a young talented player like Xavi makes perfect sense.

Xavi netted 19 goals in 34 appearances for PSV last season from midfield adding nine assists to that tally. Newcastle would be mad to pass up the opportunity to have him on the books if even just for a year.
