Leeds United look like they require a £5million offer in order to land Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara this month after reported interest.
Leeds have one senior signing through the doors as things stand, but require a lot more if they are to consider themselves ready for the start of the Championship season.
Such business includes signing another midfielder or two, given the outgoings, and that might see the club bring in Rangers’ Glen Kamara.
The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth has shared that it’s likely to cost the club £5million to land the key target, given that is the figure stated on his release clause.
Here, we look at two reasons why Leeds need to simply just pay that fee as quickly as possible…
As much as relegation comes with the silver lining that we’re sure to see a lot more of Darko Gyabi, Lewis Bate, and Archie Gray, leaning so heavily on young players comes with significant risk.
They need to be playing as much as possible, but only when the situation allows for it, experience is needed first and foremost, and Kamara brings lots of it.
While he’s not a Championship veteran, at 27-years-old, he’s in his peak years as a midfielder and would bring a great deal of craft to our side next to Ethan Ampadu.
Such a signing needs to be made soon so that we’re in a healthy shape for the start of the season, especially if we’re able to keep hold of Tyler Adams.
£5million isn’t going to bring a great deal of resale value for a 27-year-old down the line, but it’s not a signing that has to.
Leeds got stuck in the issue in previous seasons of putting all their focus on signing players that are going to be worth more in the future.
The problem you have with that is that you’re risking short-term success for long-term results, but we need a balance.
So Ampadu provides a best-of-both-worlds with that, but Kamara is definitely a player who simply just improves our side right now, rather than years down the line.
