With the Seattle Seahawks badly lacking linebacker depth, the team has brought in a former Minnesota Vikings player.

Seattle Times reporter Bob Condotta revealed on Wednesday that Blake Lynch has been added to minicamp as a tryout player. Other reported Seahawks mandatory minicamp tryouts are veteran wide receiver Robbie Chosen and UFL wide receiver Ty Scott of the DC Defenders.

None of these tryout players is on the 90-man roster, but with a good display from now until Thursday there’s a chance they could turn a tryout into a contract.

Lynch was undrafted out of Baylor when he signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. He spent two seasons in Minnesota, having initially made the practice squad in his rookie season. Lynch saw some playing time in the final month of the regular season, then appeared in 16 games in 2021, including 218 defensive snaps and 342 special teams snaps. He recorded 35 tackles, an interception, and a pair of sacks and passes defensed.

After staying on the Arizona Cardinals practice squad in 2022 and into 2023, Lynch played seven games (exclusively on special teams) with the Los Angeles Chargers.

With Jerome Baker and Tyrel Dodson out until training camp due to injury recovery, it makes sense for the Seahawks to see what they can do at inside linebacker, even if it’s just to give special teams depth a boost. We’ll see if Lynch is able to make enough of an impression to get a closer look into late July.
