Magpies midfielder ends AFL career due to ongoing concussion issues.

Josh Carmichael has played eight AFL games since being taken in the 2022 Mid-Season Draft.

Collingwood midfielder Josh Carmichael faces an uncertain future in the AFL due to ongoing concussion issues.

Carmichael – who was taken with Pick 9 in the 2022 Mid-Season Draft – hasn’t been cited on a football field since May 4 after suffering another head knock.

SEN’s Sam Edmund revealed that the 24-year-old copped a high-hit in the pre-season and was placed back on the Pies’ injury list a month ago with “delayed concussion symptoms”.

Carmichael’s former teammate Nathan Murphy was forced into early retirement due to multiple knocks to the head earlier this year, as was Western Bulldogs’ Aiden O’Driscoll before debuting for the club.

The pair followed Melbourne’s Angus Brayshaw’s decision to hang up the boots.
