Manchester United appear set to complete yet another departure following Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga’s departures.
Nathan Bishop started his career with Southend United before joining the Carrington youth ranks in January 2020.
He is an England Under-20 international and has enjoyed success on-loan at Manfield Town during the 2021-22 season, which saw him appear in the League Two play-off final.
Bishop’s current United deal is due to expire in June 2024, but it seems he won’t make it that far, as a deal has seemingly been agreed to see him depart.
‘Deal agreed’ for Bishop sale
According to reports in The Northern Echo, Sunderland have “agreed a deal” to sign Bishop from United.
It continues that the 23-year-old will continue the US tour with United before completing his move on return to the UK.
The framework of the deal is said to be agreed after United told the goalkeeper he could leave this summer.
While no fee has been mentioned of yet, a sale is unlikely to bolster the transfer pot of Erik ten Hag, with Bishop’s value at £258k.
A move to the Stadium of Light also does make sense for Bishop himself as he is at the age when first-team opportunities are a must.
The sales continue
Bishop’s potential departure would be latest in a growing line, with Charlie Savage, Telles and Elanga all departing over the last week.
This has been a long overdue move from the club as for too long we have struggled to shift on players, young or old.
This led to the Under-21s being filled with too many players who wouldn’t ever make it at the club, at the age of 20, 21.
These departures from the group though will allow talented youngsters to quickly gain opportunities in Premier League 2.
