Bryson Webber discusses his commitment, the decision process after a coaching shift, and his plans to enroll early.
Bryson Webber announced Nebraska was the pick on Sunday, choosing the Huskers over TCU and Utah.
Husker247 caught up with the defensive back from Ridge Point (Texas) High School on Sunday to get his thoughts on what separated Nebraska from the others. And what were his first thoughts after talking with new NU defensive backs coach John Butler?
“For me Nebraska really just kept it straightforward with me. They told me they’d really love for me to play corner once I got there,” said Webber, who saw an opportunity to truly compete to make an impact sooner than later in Lincoln. “And if I was to get bigger than what they expect obviously the safety position will be open as well. It seems like they really want me to be engaged into that starting role or at least into playing, and I really respected that.”
Why Bryson Webber is a great get for Nebraska Football
Nebraska had some great news to kick off the week as we get closer to watching some college football with the announcement that Bryson Webber is on board with the Huskers.
Webber is a rangy athlete with a great tackle radius and a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
This 6-2 175lb defensive back out of Texas fits how Rhule likes to recruit with physical traits trumping other characteristics. Being longer allows him to change positions depending on how his frame handles the strength and conditioning aspect of college life to see where he ends up.
Texas is a hotbed of talent and Rhule continues to make inroads with players who will add valuable depth in a vital position in the attritional Big Ten conference. Tony White has turned this Husker team into a great tackling team and Webber looks great at making open-field tackles.
The past week has been quite turbulent with the resignation of defensive backs coach Evan Cooper and the hiring of Buffalo Bills defensive backs coach John Butler. This coaching change so close to the start of the season didn’t seem to sway Webber who is in the boat for what is turning out to be a very talented recruiting class.
