Collingwood Senior Coach Craig McRae has named the Magpies’ extended squad for Sunday’s Round 20 clash against Richmond at the MCG.
Mason Cox, Lachie Schultz, Harvey Harrison, Billy Frampton, Jack Bytel and Wil Parker have all come into the squad, with Nathan Kreuger (concussion), Reef McInnes (omitted) and Joe Richards (omitted) making way.
The final team, including three emergencies, will be selected from the extended squad and named at 5pm on Friday.
Cox returns after missing the last seven games due to a concussion and a knee injury. The tall sustained both injuries in the Magpies’ Round 11 draw against Fremantle. The 221cm Cox is in contention for his 125th AFL game and 12th of season 2024 in Sunday’s clash.
Schultz comes back into the squad after missing last week’s clash against Hawthorn due to concussion. The 26-year-old is the Magpies’ equal second leading goal-kicker for the season and is averaging 3.8 tackles a game.
Harrison returns to the squad after being managed for last week’s clash, while Frampton and Bytel are named after spending time in the VFL.
Wil Parker last week made his return to football in the VFL after undergoing surgery on a meniscus tear in his knee. The defender returns to the AFL squad for the first time since Round 13 and is in contention for his third AFL game after switching from professional cricket to sign with the Magpies in the 2024 pre-season.
Sunday’s clash is set to be a chance for the Magpie Army to give back, as the Collingwood Foundation partners with Coles to raise much needed funds for the Magpie Nest Program.
Magpie Nest is a partnership between Collingwood and the Salvation Army (Project 614) that provides housing, meals and other wrap around services to those Victorians that are doing it tough.
Supporting 41 houses in Melbourne, with over 120 adults and children accommodated. Half of these houses are occupied by only women and children, as well as the Magpie Nest Café in Melbourne’s CBD that serves over 10,000 free meals a month to those doing it tough.
In an incredible show of support, Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army, Major Brendan Nottle will be sleeping rough at AIA Vitality Centre to shine a light on Victorians doing it tough.
Coles will be matching donations across the entire weekend of Round 20.
The Magpie Army are encouraged to check out several activations that will be held at AIA Vitality Centre this weekend to help raise funds for the cause. Coles will be hosting a BBQ and there will be plenty of activities for the kids. From a games zone, face painting, live music and more.
