Under the Ron Rivera regime, the Washington Commanders selected running back Brian Robinson Jr. out of Alabama with the No. 98 overall pick in the third round of 2022 NFL Draft.
As we have seen this offseason, new coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters have no problems getting rid of Rivera era pieces that don’t fit their system.
On Sunday, Robinson ran the ball 12 times for 40 yards and a touchdown while also hauling in three passes for 49 yards. Following the game, coach Quinn was asked if Robinson fit the mold of what’s he is looking for in the future.
“Absolutely,” Quinn said. “Man, is he tough. Seeing him come off the field and the energy he brings, I think for a lot of people they didn’t know Brian was the receiver that he is, as well.
“I think you guys have because you’ve been at practice, and you’ve seen us utilize him in that way.”
Quinn and Peters have expressed multiple times that they are looking for guys who can play “Commanders Ball”, meaning tough, hard-nosed, do what it takes to win every play guys.
Robinson is THAT guy.
He could see a lot more opportunities in the run game against the New York Giants on Sunday.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
