After winning only four games during the 2023 NFL season, the New England Patriots headed into the offseason with plans to start from scratch by parting ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick and using the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on a rookie quarterback.
Ultimately, the team decided to use their first-round draft pick on Drake Maye, out of the University of North Carolina, whom the storied franchise views as the team’s future under center in New England
However, the team chose to start the 2024 campaign with Maye as the team’s backup behind veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, and that move may have already begun to pay off as he was able to lead the team to an incredible upset win over the Cincinnati Bengals on the road in Week 1 at Paycor Stadium.
No one predicted that after everything the team had done during the offseason with the apparent intention of rebuilding, they would win their season opener against a legitimate Super Bowl title contender, but that happened in Cincinnati.
According to the team’s X account, after a solid start to the season, the Patriots made some moves on Tuesday ahead of Week 2.
The addition of defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy to the practice squad and the release of guard Jerome Carvin are not exactly game-changing moves, as they will not significantly affect the Patriots’ future.
