Three players will face tests to prove their fit to play in Adelaide this weekend.
Hawthorn trio Aine McDonagh, Emily Bates and Kristy Stratton are a chance to face the Crows on Sunday, and will all fitness tests to determine their availability.
McDonagh sustained a wrist injury late in the Hawks Week 2 win over Collingwood, and Bates was a late out due to calf soreness, while Kristy Stratton has overcome her hamstring strain sustained in preseason.
AFLW High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett gave an updated on each of the players who are in the mix for a return and also insight into Casey Sherriff’s ankle injury from late in the game against the Pies.
Casey Sherriff (Ankle) – TBC
“Yeah nasty incident for Casey, she got her leg caught underneath a couple of bodies and got a bit tangled up. Unfortunately, she sustained a fracture of her fibular and some high grade ankle with some syndesmosis involvement. So she’s having surgical fixation of that bone today, pending the outcomes of that surgery, we still anticipate there’s a possibility she’ll be available for some football hopefully at the back end of the home and away season, all going well but still some information to be gained from that.”
Aine McDonagh (Wrist) – TEST
“Another one that was quite fortunate in many respects, we looked at the vision and Aine came down from a marking contest and got stood on by another player. Thankfully all the scans have cleared any major damage, she’s got some bone bruising and some swelling so we’ll manage that through the week but we anticipate at this stage that that’s not going to be an obstacle to availability.”
Emily Bates (Calf) – TEST
“We spoke last week around the fact that Emily had pulled up with a bit of a sore calf post the Carlton game, we thought there was nothing in it. As the week progressed it sort of had lingered, we tried to give it as much time as possible to come up and we assessed her on Saturday. She went very well on Saturday, but out of the abundance of caution, it’s a very short season, Emily’s a really important player for us so we as a team made a decision to hold her back from this weekend. Hopefully we’ll get her to train fully this week and pending getting through that we anticipate she’ll play this weekend.”
Kristy Stratton (Hamstring) – TEST
“Stratts is finally out of rehab really, technically. She’s progressed really really well, she trained fully last week and we expect that she’ll train fully this week and be available for selection and some football this weekend.”
