Patriots Coordinator Provides Update On young QB upset win against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Veteran starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett played fine, completing 15 of 24 passes for 121 yards and adding seven rushes for 32 yards.

However, No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye is presumably the Patriots’ future at the position.

Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt recently spoke about how Maye is coming along in his first year.

“The future is bright for Drake. We’ve got to continue to develop and let him grow,” Van Pelt said, via “Jones & Keefe.”

First of all, Patriots fans should have faith in Van Pelt as an offensive coordinator.

He is a former NFL quarterback and has coached the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Andy Dalton, Baker Mayfield and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Maye has good size and athletic talent that certainly helped him at North Carolina, where he won ACC Player of the Year.

The words about Maye from Van Pelt should make Patriots fans very happy.

Not only is the team feeling good after starting the year with an unexpected victory, the long-term future seems bright under head coach Jerod Mayo.

There is no doubt that a lot of eyes will be on Maye moving forward, especially if New England starts to lose games this season.

If they do, fans will call for the rookie to step in and be the starter sooner rather than later.
