Liverpool failed with their first bid to sign Romeo Lavia but will return with a second offer much closer to their £50 million asking price.

The 19-year-old was fantastic last season and is widely expected to quickly develop into one of the most impressive midfielders in the Premier League.

An expectation only bolstered by the likelihood that he will soon be managed by Jurgen Klopp – a coach famed for his ability to coax the best out of talented young players.

So what’s the latest on Liverpool’s interest in Lavia?

Liverpool are preparing a second bid to complete Romeo Lavia signing

On Monday, the Times reported that Liverpool will present a new offer to Southampton after being rejected with their first offer.

The Saints are demanding £50 million – a position they have fiercely defended all summer and with the opening day of the Premier League season just two weeks away, pressure is on to complete a deal to sign the 19-year-old.

After their bid of £34 million, in addition to £4 million in add-on, was rejected last week by the Sky Bet Championship club, Liverpool are set to return with a second offer

While time will tell, Fabrizio Romano reports that the final “package offer” will be around £45 million and has been “ready since last week”.

How much does Romeo Lavia earn?

Personal terms have already been agreed with the Southampton star. His current salary is difficult to ascertain as both Capology and Spotrac report he earns £45,000 per week which amounts to an annual salary of £1.3 million.

Meanwhile, Salary Sport claims he is paid just shy of £2 million per year at around £38,000 per week. Regardless of his current income, he will be certain to receive a significant increase with a switch to Anfield.

Assuming he received a 50% increase on £38,000/week , he would earn £56,000 a week with the Reds or £2.8 million per annum.

This salary would sandwich him between Curtis Jones and Adrian in the Liverpool wage bill.
