Major reinforcements could be on the way for the Green Bay Packers‘ defense ahead of Thursday night’s tilt against the bitter rival and NFC North-leading Detroit Lions.
Facing what promises to be the most daunting challenge on the schedule, Lions quarterback Jared Goff and an explosive cast of weapons in the vertical passing game, Green Bay could be primed to be getting one of the Packers’ most important defensive backs back onto the field.
Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander returned to practice, for the first time in two weeks, since suffering a knee injury back in Week 8.
Alexander has posted 16 tackles with two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown so far this season and could prove critical against the likes of Lions wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, emerging star Tim Patrick and the rest of one of the NFL’s most prolific vertical passing games.
If Alexander can get back to action on Thursday night, it would be a major boost to defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s defense at a time where they’ll need to come up big to pull off a big win in a game with major playoff implications.
