Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has reacted on Instagram to Ange Postecoglou’s call to appoint Son Heung-min as Tottenham Hotspur’s next captain after the departure of Harry Kane.

The 31-year-old is Mr Popular at Tottenham and, as soon as Harry Kane left the building, he was the obvious choice to wear the armband.

Now, it needs to be noted, Kane wasn’t the Spurs captain, that was Hugo Lloris, but it was known before pre-season started that the World Cup-winning goalkeeper was going to leave.

Therefore, a new captain was needed and everyone pointed at Kane, but this talk of Bayern Munich was always lingering over his head, so Ange Postecoglou couldn’t really make his final call.

Well, now that the England captain is a Bayern Munich player, the Spurs boss has decided that Son Heung-min is the man to, not just possibly lead the line ahead of the new Premier League season, but also lead the team out.

Son expressed his delight on Instagram at that call, with Joe Hart posting in the comments section of the forward’s Instagram post ‘Go on, Sonny’ added with a heart emoji.

“A truly special moment for me and my family,” said Son. “To be named captain of our beautiful club is an honour of a lifetime, I will do everything to make you all proud.

“The season is here now. We have a great group of players and leaders, let’s make it one to remember.”

Postecoglou has made the right call

There might be more vocal players in the dressing room or some that are more hard-hitting and aggressive out on the pitch, but that doesn’t seem to be the way Postecoglou likes to point.

It seems as though he prefers the most popular player in the dressing room and that fan favourite as the one to lead the team.

And Son certainly is that, even when Kane was still at the club, only the £22 million South Korean star (FourFourTwo) could match Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer, in terms of popularity, well, now he stands at the top of the list on his own.
