The final two weeks of the summer transfer window are now here. Active in the market so far this summer but still having plenty of work to do, Daniel Levy and Tottenham need to be very busy over the next fortnight as they look to build Ange Postecoglou’s dream squad before 11pm on Friday, September 1.
As important as it is that the Australian’s squad is strengthened with a couple more signings, Tottenham need to cut down on the current numbers as Postecoglou unfortunately has a bloated squad to work with at present. Tending to be very busy at the end of the transfer window in previous years, Spurs could possibly be in for a repeat with so much still to tick off on their to-do list.
So what exactly would constitute a dream end to the summer transfer window for Postecoglou and Tottenham? football.london takes a look.
Incomings
Tottenham have managed to complete a number of signings so far this summer but more has to be done ahead of the transfer deadline. Following Harry Kane’s exit to Bayern Munich, Spurs need to add to their attack and ensure that the goals are there now that the England captain has headed to Bavaria.
Gift Orban is a player Tottenham fans are desperate to see move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following his goalscoring heroics for Gent. Valued at £17million by Transfermarkt, the Belgian club are believed to want around £25.8million for the hotshot after his stunning run of form in front of goal following his switch from Stabaek.
A player who knows where the back of the net is and someone who could flourish in Postecoglou’s team, the 21-year-old could be quite the signing if he can replicate his stunning form in the Premier League. Another position the Lilywhites need to address is centre-back.
Having added to their options with Ashley Phillips and Micky van de Ven joining the club last week, Postecoglou stills require another centre-back as he bids to oversee a drastic change in defence. Torino ace Perr Schuurs has been linked with a move to north London in recent weeks and he would be another top addition for the club if they can pull it off.
Right-footed but capable of playing in both centre-back berths, Schuurs, who has also been linked with Liverpool, is valued at £21m by Transfermarkt and is another for the future given he is only 23 years of age. If not Schuurs, Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo would be a good option due to his qualities on the ball and experience in the Premier League.
Spurs may also require a new central midfielder ahead of the deadline depending on what exactly happens with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Dane has been heavily tipped to sign for Atletico Madrid and the final two weeks of the transfer window could maybe bring about a transfer agreement between both parties.
Conor Gallagher is a player Tottenham hold an interest in and the England international has all the attributes Postecoglou looks for in a midfielder. However, agreeing on a deal with Chelsea could prove to be the sticking point as the clubs do not tend to deal with each other.
Chelsea’s recent dealings in midfield could push Gallagher towards the exit, though, and that may open up the door for a move across the capital. If Hojbjerg is to leave for Atleti, the Chelsea ace would be a fine replacement.
