James Maddison has admitted that he is eagerly looking forward to his official home debut on Saturday, remarking that it would be nice to hear the supporters come up with a chant for him.

Maddison is undoubtedly the highest-profile of the signings that Tottenham have made this transfer widow and one can argue that he is the bargain of the summer so far, particularly given the prices that other midfield players around the Premier League have gone for over recent weeks.

The 26-year-old has already been handed a leadership role by Ange Postecoglou, who named him as one of the two vice-captains to Son Heung-min.

The former Leicester star had a stellar debut in a Spurs shirt, setting up both of the away side’s goals in the 2-2 draw against Brentford last Sunday.

James Maddison is excited for Spurs home debut

The England international stated that he is really looking forward to running out with the Lilywhite shirt on for the first time in a competitive fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Maddison told the club’s matchday programme about the clash against Man Utd: “I’m really looking forward to it.

“I can’t wait to experience a home Premier League matchday as a Tottenham player and perform for the fans and repay their faith and spirit that they bring by putting on good, attacking performances.

“A chant would be lovely though! No matter how many times you’re involved in football and how long you’ve been in the game, every single time you hear your name chanted and sung it’s a heart-warming feeling that you can’t really describe. So come on Spurs fans!”

If Maddison continues in the same vein, it certainly would not be long before Tottenham fans come up with a chant for the 26-year-old. The attacking midfielder deserves an original chant rather than to have one recycled from the past.
