Nottingham Forest are keen to sign Roma midfielder Nicola Zalewski during the summer transfer window. The versatile player is also a target for Premier League clubs West Ham and Bournemouth.
According to Il Messaggero, the Reds are keen to test the resolve of Roma during the window. Zalewski has just two years to run on his existing contract and teams are keen to exploit that.
The 21-year-old is viewed as a talented player with a bright future. However, the player does have a decent amount of regular senior action to his name, playing 47 times in all competitions during 2022/23.
Zalewski wouldn’t cost the earth should Forest try to make an attempt to sign the versatile player. It claimed in the latest report that the player would be available this summer for around £17 million.
Last season, Jose Mourinho utilised Zalewski on the right and the left. He chopped and changed between the two wing-back positions and showcased his ability on both sides of the pitch.
Roma’s general manager Tiago Pinto made a trip to England on Wednesday. He’s looking to speak with clubs regarding Zalewski and at present a trio of top-flight outfits are very keen.
Forest will be in the market for a left-sided wing-back. Renan Lodi is a difficult permanent signing; whilst Carlos Augusto could choose Inter over a move to the City Ground with the Reds.
Forest keen to sign Zalewski and he’d be a useful signing
Adding someone quite so versatile would be a very good move by Forest. The club had far too many injuries last season and adding some utility men would be a very good thing to do this summer.
Zalewski has also fulfilled a duty in the middle of the park for Roma and perhaps that could be an option for Steve Cooper too. The player also has also 11 Poland caps to his name.
The Reds will look for quality over quantity in the transfer market this summer. It was only 12 months ago when the club signed 23 players during the transfer window and that won’t be happening again.
Zalewski fits the profile of being quality. He has made 73 appearances for a top Serie A outfit and he fits the ethos of the type of player that Forest should be looking to sign for the future.
Rumour rating: 7/10 – Although we like this link, we can’t help but think Zalewski might turn his nose up at a move to Forest.
He’s used to playing in Europe and a move to West Ham would allow him not only the chance to do that but also the chance to play in London.
We’d welcome the Polish performer to the City Ground but we’re sceptical right now over whether or not it’s realistic.
