Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will have to fork out £80 million to acquire the services of 27-year-old Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
According to a report by The Times, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on having Ivan Toney in their ranks. The 27-year-old English striker has an exceptional record in the English top flight, and there are quite a few clubs interested in his services. And Brentford will demand £80 million to part ways with him.
Toney joined Brentford back in the summer of 2020 from Peterborough United for an initial fee of £6.5 million. He has gone from strength to strength since making the move. The English international has featured in a total of 124 matches for the Bees and has been involved in 89 goals. He has found the back of the net on 68 occasions and has 21 assists to his name.
Last season, the 27-year-old was involved in 35 matches and managed to rack up 26 goal contributions. Toney has been in sensational form in the English top flight, and he was expected to be on the move to a bigger club in the ongoing transfer window.
But, his gambling ban has derailed his career to an extent. Toney will be back in action when his suspension ends on January 16, 2024. And, he has started preparing for a move to a top-six club amid interest from several big teams. The 27-year-old is set to change his agents and sign with the world-renowned agency Stellar.
They have ensured quite a few big moves in the past and Toney’s transfer could be another one. While he still has two years left on his deal with Brentford and they are keen on having him at the club, the 2024 winter window could see him join either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur.
The Gunners are looking for a prolific striker. While they do have a few number 9s in their ranks, injuries and inconsistency are a concern for Mikel Arteta. So the Arsenal manager wants to sort it out by signing the Brentford star.
Meanwhile, Tottenham recently sold their record goal scorer Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and they are eager to replace him with someone who has done it in the Premier League.
Both Spurs and Arsenal are convinced that Toney could do wonders for them. But, they will have to break the bank and fork out £80 million to sign the England international. The Bees are unlikely to let him leave on the cheap given his terrific performance in the English top flight last season.
