Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes looks destined to join Manchester City – with Fabrizio Romano reporting a deal is close.
Erik ten Hag was desperate for a midfielder this summer, and United were linked with most names under the sun.
It was in fact Mason Mount that the Dutchman decided to go for, with United prying away the Chelsea star from his boyhood club.
Now it looks like Wolves midfielder Nunes is coming to Manchester – but on the blue side with Pep Guardiola.
Matheus Nunes edging closer to City move
According to the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano, City proposed an initial £47.2m €55m euros deal for the Portuguese midfielder – which was ultimately rejected.
However, they’re prepared to launch a new bid will be submitted after €55m package rejected, likely to be the last one from City.
The reason why it looks increasingly likely this deal will come through is the fact that the player has ‘already accepted’ Manchester City as his preferred destination.
Wolves will fight to keep him. They’ve already lost one of their top-tier midfielders this summer, with Ruben Neves making the switch to the Saudi Pro League.
He tore apart Manchester United…
The opening day of the season saw Manchester United face Wolves, in a fixture that many thought would be a walk in the park for the Red Devils.
More like a sprint through an electric avenue. Wolves came to Old Trafford and boy did they play.
At the heart of it all was City-bound Nunes, who was absolutely immense in the centre of the park.
