Chelsea are now considering signing ‘special’ player from Arsenal this week – journalist.

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea are weighing up launching a bid for Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.

He told his Substack that he is a new name on the list of players being considered by the club to strengthen their squad before this week’s transfer deadline.

Smith Rowe has seen his appearances limited in the last 12 months due to injuries and other factors.

Before that though, he showed real promise that he was threatening to break into an already strong midfield at the Emirates.

He was described as ‘special’ by Jamie Carragher as he begun to breakthrough into the Premier League.

However, this route to starting in North London has certainly been obscured more due to their transfer activity this summer.

While they smashed their transfer record to bring in former Chelsea target Declan Rice, they also looked to Stamford Bridge to strengthen in that role.

They brought in Kai Havertz before the season got underway, however it’s fair to say the German has struggled to hit the ground running so far.

Nevertheless, Chelsea are reportedly considering relying on this to try and bring in the England international this summer.

Johnson has now claimed that he has been added to the list of names that the club are considering in the final days of the transfer window.

He said: “Emile Smith Rowe from Arsenal was one new name mentioned, so that might be one to keep an eye on. Nothing solid on him yet and only mentioned from one source”

It feels unlikely that they will be able to lure him away from the Emirates at this stage, although the possibility of offering a route straight to the first team is certainly up for grabs.
