Leeds United striker Georginio Rutter was subject to previous interest from Borussia Dortmund this summer, but turned down the Bundesliga giants’ approach.
Leeds were made to struggle through a large portion of the transfer window under Daniel Farke, coming to terms with relegation and the clauses in contracts that followed.
Retention of key attackers has been a key topic for the club to have to face, with Georginio Rutter one of the main names fans wanted to see this season after getting little initially from that £36million January investment.
Rutter to Dortmund?
Sky Sports (29/8, 11.48am) have revealed today that Leeds have previously fielded interest from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund for Rutter’s signature.
It is revealed that the German outfit tabled an offer amounting to £25million in total to sign the talented Frenchman.
Such a bid was rejected by Leeds as they aim to keep hold of the striker beyond the deadline on Friday night.
Who else wants to sign him?
French club Lyon are now said to be keen on signing Rutter as they aim to replace the outbound Bradley Barcola, who looks to be a wanted man this week.
The issue that Lyon have is that they will need to propose a bid that sees Leeds at least break even on the forward, having broke their transfer record to sign him last season:
There is no way we let Rutter go without making a lot of money back for him, because he showed against Ipswich that there is so much more to come.
He looks hungry to impress, and has the talent to make a lot of teams in the Championship look foolish with his quality.
On top of this, I don’t think Lyon will have the clout to bring him in, as they look likely to see Barcola’s exit go down to the wire.
