Paintsil interest

Joseph Paintsil reportedly remains on Leeds United’s shortlist, and a move for the Genk attacker could reportedly be pursued if Wilfried Gnonto or Luis Sinisterra leave ahead of the deadline. However, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Burnley are now looking to make a ‘last minute’ move for the attacking midfielder.

Reflecting on Leeds’ stance on Paintsil, Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton told GiveMeSport: “Paintsil is one they’ve tried to get in, but I think he’s more a case of ‘Let’s see what happens now.’ Because if they lose Sinisterra, they might need to replace him before the window closes. So, I don’t think they can leave it until two hours before the transfer window closes before they start looking at options.

“They’ve got options, and he’s certainly one of them. But, again, the difficulty has been in trying to get him out of his club and into the Championship.”

The Whites were among a host of clubs repeatedly linked with a move for Nat Phillips over the course of the summer. The Liverpool defender, who has enjoyed previous loan spells with Bournemouth and Stuttgart, has now joined Celtic on loan until January, and expressed his delight at joining a ‘huge club’.

Phillips said: “I’m really excited. When I heard about the interest it was one that got me excited. There were a few other options that didn’t quite make me feel the same as this one did, so I was really keen to get it over the line and I’m delighted to be here now.

“It’s such a huge club, the club’s aspirations, the level it competes at, the fact that they’re in the Champions League this year and the mentality of the club – they want to be winners in everything they do.”
