Three free agent strikers Manchester United could consider signing.

The transfer window has closed and Manchester United have strengthened the squad. However, not as extensively as many would like.

Only one striker has been signed, Rasmus Hojlund. Is this enough, when the back-up is injury-prone Anthony Martial?

The opportunity to pay money to sign players is over, or secure loans. But there is one final avenue United could explore – signing free agents.

The market for free agents at this stage is always slim pickings, but here is a look at three available strikers United might want to explore for extra depth…

Moussa Marega

Andre Onana’s international teammate Moussa Marega is a free agent after his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal was terminated, amid their recent spending spree.

Marega scored 25 goals in 75 games for Al-Hilal, including a goal in the Club World Cup against Real Madrid.

The 32-year-old’s most successful spell in Europe came with Porto, where he scored 72 goals in 191 games.

Mariano Diaz

A former number 7 at Real Madrid, Mariano Diaz finds himself a free agent at the age of 30.

He looked destined for big things after scoring 21 goals in 45 games for Lyon, which prompted Real to re-sign him.

However, his second spell at the Spanish club was a disappointment and he was released this summer.

Papu Gomez

Atalanta made the decision to release Papu Gomez on transfer deadline day, Fabrizio Romano reported.

The 35-year-old is more of a winger than a striker, and has been a key part of Atalanta’s exciting football in recent seasons, scoring 59 goals for the club, and per Transfermarkt figures, 72 assists.

If United want to add a little extra creativity and invention to the attack, Gomez would be a total wildcard to throw in.

Or United simply stick with what they have…

Most probably, the free agent market is not the solution for Manchester United, who will stick with the current options.

This may include leaning on 19-year-old striker Joe Hugill, in an emergency, who was not sent out on loan. Jadon Sancho could also be used as a striker as he was in pre-season.
