Both teams had opportunities to go ahead in the opening period, with Bruno Guimaraes’ back-post header being Mark Flekken’s best stop for Brentford.

Here are the first-half player ratings at halftime.
1. Nick Pope, seven
a ball over the top with a quick head clear while standing tall early to deny Aaron Hickey. Was rarely bothered and sure of my purpose this time.
2. Kieran Trippier (7 points)
A few teaser balls were thrown in, but nothing happened. After another free kick was only partially cleared, Volleyed over. defensively excellent coverage.
3. Fabian Schar (seven)
Observed a long shot deflect for a corner. got to work and used good reading to maintain the season’s first clean sheet.
4. Sven Botman, score 7.
inconsistent distribution from the back, but defense was still largely sound.
