Leeds United champion tells Wilfried Gnonto what he needs do to earn pardon
Leeds United supporters divided after 2023/24 kit 'leak' ahead of return to Championship - Leeds LiveThe Italian international Wilfried Gnonto missed two games earlier this season in an effort to force a transfer out, but he has recently started playing again for Daniel Farke’s team.

Following his attempt to force a summer exit, Wilfried Gnonto has been advised that he still has a “long way” to go before he can win over Leeds United supporters. Everton was interested in signing the Italy international, therefore he declined to participate in a number of games in an effort to secure a transfer to Goodison Park.

The two teams were unable to agree on a transfer fee, and Gnonto has since apologized and been reintegrated into Daniel Farke’s team. The offensive player has started for Leeds in their previous three games and scored in their season-opening league victory at Ipswich Town last month.

Former Whites defender Jon Newsome thinks Gnonto would one day look back on the incident and “cringe” because he followed “terrible advice.” Since being brought back into the first squad, the 19-year-old has put up strong performances, according to Newsome, who thinks Farke and the team handled the situation effectively.

Through Inside Futbol, he stated on BBC Radio Leeds: “What occurred in the past has happened in the past. Is it reparable? Before he is pardoned and it is not forgotten, a lot of time and distance must pass.

“The manager handled it pretty effectively, and the boy is 19 years old. He received some horrible advice, followed it, realized his error, and apologized. I believe that is the best course of action because he gets a second chance but won’t receive a third.
