22-year-old Leeds United goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson is no closer to making his way into the first team squad this season, and it’s about time he looked for a move away.

The Whites’ squad depth at the moment is uncharacteristically impressive, with Daniel Farke eager to have players competing for places all over the pitch.

In goal, Karl Darlow’s arrival has added a real competitive battle behind Illan Meslier, who remains the number one choice.

Where is Kristoffer Klaesson?

On the fringes is 22-year-old goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson, who has only one senior Leeds appearance to his name as he came off the bench to replace Meslier early in Jesse Marsch’s tenure away to Wolves – in the process helping Leeds to a memorable win.

Since then, he’s been limited to the odd friendly as well as youth football where he competes with Harry Christy, and Dani van den Heuvel.

So far this season, he hasn’t made a single appearance at youth level either, with his contract running until the summer of 2025.

Should he leave?

At his age, it’s about time that Klaesson is making regular senior appearances, and that is just not on the table at Elland Road.

A loan should have been sanctioned in the summer, but with that not the case, there is a chance to make amends in January.

Klaesson’s move to Leeds in the summer of 2021 hasn’t done anything at all for his development, more than two years on and still no closer to competing for a starting spot.

Whether it’s permanent or temporary, a transfer exit is required in the new year for the Norwegian.
