Could wide receiver George Pickens be trying to find his way off the Pittsburgh Steelers?
Following the Steelers’ win over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night, Pickens took to social media and posted “Free Me!” as well as deleting all Steelers-related posts on his Instagram. That included changing his profile picture to one from his high-school days (h/t Dov Kleiman of BroBible).
Additionally, Pickens unfollowed quarterback Kenny Pickett, head coach Mike Tomlin and the Steelers’ official account.
This occurred after Pickens logged two catches for negative-1 yard in Pittsburgh’s victory over the Titans. He also had a colossal misstep in which he caught a pass in the end zone and failed to get both feet in bounds in spite of having plenty of space to do so.
It marks the second straight week that Pickens did not see a whole lot of action, as he caught one pass (which was a 22-yard touchdown grab) in the Steelers’ Week 8 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Pickens was targeted five times in each of his last two games, which are both season lows. As a matter of fact, prior to the Jaguars loss, he had posted back-to-back 100-yard efforts, including a six-catch, 130-yard outing in a Week 6 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
On the season overall, Pickens has totaled 30 receptions for 521 yards and three touchdowns.
The 22-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Georgia, was selected by Pittsburgh in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Pickens enjoyed a solid rookie campaign, snaring 52 balls for 801 yards and four scores.
The Steelers improved to 5-3 with their triumph over the Titans are just one game behind the Ravens for first place in the AFC North, but apparently, that doesn’t matter to George Pickens.
