Sheffield Wednesday will be without captain Barry Bannan for their home clash with Millwall. The midfielder is set to serve a one-match suspension following his sending off at Bristol City this afternoon.

The Scotland international was penalised for bringing down Jason Knight just outside the penalty area in the 32nd minute of their Ashton Gate tussle. It is only the second red card of Bannan’s career.

The 33-year-old has started all four matches under Danny Röhl. His suspension is a further blow to Röhl as he looks to lead Wednesday to safety.

Bannan has expressed his admiration for Röhl since the German replaced Xisco Munoz in the managerial hotseat, saying the players have bought into his methods. “All the boys have bought into it.

“It’s hard because we’re training at a higher tempo now and we need to get a little bit fitter. The last couple of games we’ve had people getting tired towards the 70-minute mark because of that intensity he wants.

“So it will take time but everybody has bought into it and that’s the way we want to play: play on the front foot and win the ball high up if we can. It’s been a breath of fresh air since he came in. I’m 33 and I’ve had a lot of coaches but I’m still learning and he’s really impressed the lads and we all want to do well for him.”

Wednesday host the Lion on Saturday, November 11. It is their final fixture before the third international break. The Lions are 18th following a four-match winless run.
