Danny Rohl has explained the ‘culture’ he is trying to replicate at Sheffield Wednesday from his time with Bayern Munich.

After the rather underwhelming appointment of Xisco Munoz that ended after only three months, Danny Rohl arrived with a very exciting reputation.

The German was only just kickstarting his career in senior management, but he had a number of big clubs on his CV already.

Rohl began his coaching career with RB Leipzig, where he spent almost eight years as a coach and a performance and opposition analyst.

He then went onto become assistant manager at Southampton, before returning to Germany with Bayern Munich in 2019.

Rohl most recently spent two years as assistant coach of the German national team, before diving into management with Sheffield Wednesday.

While only 34 years old, Rohl has proven to be a huge hit at Hillsborough so far. The Owls sit five points from safety at the bottom of the Championship, but have claimed six wins from their last eleven games in all competitions.

As Sheffield Wednesday gradually progress, Rohl has explained the ‘high performance culture’ he is looking to bring to the club.

Speaking to The Star, Rohl said: “It’s about winning, being happy, but for me it is about creating a culture where we are not happy with one win, we want more and more.

“I saw the players at Munich, big players who want to train and want to win every single training match as well. It’s a little different, for them it is not just about training, it’s also for them about winning every training game. If you create this in your team you build a high intensity in training because it’s about being on fire to win. This is what I want to create.

“A high performance culture is also about being professional, having good sleep, eating good food, having good recovery and improving things off the pitch. This for me is a topic for the future on how we can help our players to be as prepared as best as they can, off and on the pitch. These are all small details that we can do as a club and what I will try to do as a manager. When you give players a good environment then they feel good.”

Can Sheffield Wednesday keep Danny Rohl a secret?

Danny Rohl has undeniably already changed the culture and the feel around the club.

It is unclear whether Sheffield Wednesday will still manage to avoid relegation, but there is so much more positivity than there was only a few months ago.

It would be a huge surprise if the German coach hasn’t caught the eye of any higher-up club yet though. Keeping Sheffield Wednesday up would be hugely impressive, and it would only take one manager out the door before Rohl’s name is hitting the papers.
