PHOENIX — Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant again has crossed an NBA milestone that few others have accomplished.
Over the weekend, Durant became the tenth player in NBA history to hit the 28,000 career points scored threshold. He also currently sits at No. 10 in the NBA’s all-time scoring list but is just 289 points behind Carmelo Anthony at No. 9 and could surpass him before the end of the season.
According to the NBA, Durant is the fourth-fastest (by games played) to reach 28K points in NBA history:
Wilt Chamberlain – 825 games
Michael Jordan – 886 games
Kareem Abdul – Jabbar – 1,008 games
Kevin Durant – 1,025 games
LeBron James – 1,033 games
This season, Durant is averaging 28.5 points on 53.1% shooting with 6.4 rebounds and 5.7 assists.
The Suns themselves are currently on a two-game losing streak after winning seven in a row, with Durant shooting only 12 times against the Orlando Magic.
“Magic defense did a good job of trying to take him out of it. But, we’ve got to make sure we screen for him better, one, and then get better looks,” Suns coach Frank Vogel said afterwards.
“They try to stay home as much as possible on the pick-and-roll games, so that’s why the three-point totals were low, and the ball wasn’t really moving like we wanted it to move. Again, credit them for getting into us, and handling the pick-and-roll without getting into rotations.”
Phoenix plays the second game of a back-to-back tonight against the Miami Heat.
