Liverpool are reportedly not considering a move for Kylian Mbappe despite reports claiming that the Reds have made a transfer bid for the PSG superstar.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Reds are not looking to sign the French international this summer despite an audacious claim from journalist Edu Aguirre last week that Liverpool had made an incredible €200m (£170m) offer for Mbappe.

Since then, no news has come out that Liverpool’s supposed bid for Mbappe actually happened, yet transfer rumours surrounding the attacker have continued to mount, with the latest being that Saudi Arabia’s PIF are open to signing the 24-year-old.

Indeed, with Mbappe keen to stay in Europe, a move to the Middle East feels as unrealistic as Liverpool making a club-record bid for the striker. And the Reds’ interest in the French captain has now seemingly been debunked in this latest update.

Jacobs said: “What I am told, though, is PIF dealmakers would love to take him for a year, even knowing he would then leave for Real or elsewhere. But Mbappe wants to compete in the UCL and not take a one-season exodus from it. Liverpool and Arsenal have also been linked with Mbappe but neither are actively considering him.”

Liverpool’s best chance of signing Mbappe will come next year

PSG’s thinking that they will receive a fee for Mbappe next summer despite his contract expiring is ludicrous, to say the least. Yet for Liverpool, 2024 will present the Anfield side with their best chance yet to sign the Ligue 1 sensation, even if the finances involved could still break the bank.

As we know, Liverpool have been linked with Mbappe for what feels like forever. And a move next year when the attacker will presumably be a free agent will be the perfect time for the Merseyside giants to make their move for the 24-year-old phenom.
