Dennis Allen’s offensive staff continued to see a dramatic makeover Tuesday as quarterbacks coach Ronald Curry is not expected to be back with the New Orleans Saints next season, multiple sources told The Times-Picayune.
Curry’s exit comes after the 44-year-old was bypassed for the Saints’ offensive coordinator job. New Orleans instead plans to hire San Francisco 49ers pass game coordinator Klint Kubiak for the role, and Kubiak will likely bring other hires with him.
Regardless, Curry is set to leave after seven seasons with the Saints — the last three of which he oversaw the quarterbacks. Curry was well regarded and seen as a rising coach around the league. Last year, he interviewed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator job before Tampa hired Dave Canales instead.
For the Saints, the departure is the latest sweeping overhaul of the Saints’ offensive staff. Among the primary position coaches, tight ends coach Clancy Barone figures to be the Saints’ lone holdover from last year. This offseason, the Saints fired offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, wide receivers coach Kodi Burns and offensive line coach Doug Marrone. They also need a new running backs coach after Joel Thomas left to join the New York Giants.
Saints assistant offensive line coach Kevin Carberry has also accepted a job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, joining New Orleans’ NFC South rival to become Tampa’s offensive line coach.
The departures of Curry and Carberry bring to six the number of assistants from the 2023 offensive coaching staff, who have been fired, left or taken jobs with other teams this offseason.
Tight ends coach Clancy Barone, assistant offensive line coach Jahri Evans and offensive assistants Kevin Petry and D.J. Williams are the only holdovers from last season’s offensive staff still with the team.
