The Seminoles are working to expand their tight end board with legitimate options
Chase Loftin, a four-star tight end prospect, received an offer from Florida State earlier this year and made his first ever trip to Tallahassee on Friday.
FSU is working to expand its tight end board and Loftin, an Omaha, Nebraska native, making his first ever visit to campus this week is a big step for the Seminoles in his recruitment.
Why did Loftin want to make the several hour plane ride down to the Sunshine State to checkout the ‘Noles for the first time?
“Obviously you hear about the stadium and how it is down there, the weather, and all of that stuff. There’s a bunch of stuff that goes into it and coach Norvell was a big piece of that,” Loftin said.
He left campus with strong impressions of the football operation in Tallahassee.
“I had a good time. The coaches showed me a lot of love — which I appreciated,” he said. “The facilities, the campus and all of that stuff was really good. I thought it was a great place.”
After getting to meet head coach Mike Norvell for the first time, he came away impressed with Norvell’s emphatic energy.
“My impressions of him was, he has a lot of energy. He brings the energy,” Loftin said of Norvell. “But he’s a good coach and a good dude. So it was special to meet him.”
He also got a chance to spend an extended period of time with the primary staffer recruiting him to FSU, tight ends coach Chris Thomsen.
“I think he’s a really good coach. Seeing him out there coaching tight ends was good for me,” he said of Thomsen. “Know how I’d be coached. Also got to sit in meetings. It was good. I really like him. He’s been recruiting me hard.”
Loftin was filled in on how FSU plans to utilize his skillset if he were to eventually sign with the ‘Noles.
“They want to use me to expand the field and be a deep threat as well as being able to block in the run game,” Loftin said of how FSU would use it.
The next goal for the ‘Noles is to lock down an official visit with the 6-foot-6, 215-pounder. They did just that on this trip.
“Yeah I set an OV for June 6,” he said.
He plans to see Texas A&M from June 14-16 before officially visiting Nebraska from June 21-23.
A decision from Loftin is expected in late June.
Loftin is ranked as the No. 22 tight end in the country and the No. 2 player in the state of Nebraska according to 247Sports.
