Chelsea have renewed their interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, according to reports. The Blues were heavily linked with a move for the Belgian in January but a deal never came to fruition.
Onana, who only signed for Everton last summer, was one of the Toffees’ best players in the 2022/23 season and played a starring role in sustaining their Premier League status.
After an impressive first half of the season in England, there was dialogue between Chelsea and the 21-year-old’s entourage but he remained at Goodison Park and Enzo Fernandez was signed instead.
Now, with Mauricio Pochettino seeking a new midfielder to bolster his squad ahead of next season, it has been reported that the Blues have revived their interest in the former Lille midfielder. According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Chelsea have ‘resumed negotiations’ for Onana and are now.
Fortunately for Pochettino, a deal could come to fruition, with Tavolieri suggesting that Onana is open to leaving Everton this summer and only a single season.
Onana played 35 games in all competitions for Everton this season and was key to Sean Dyche’s midfield in their final-day survival mission. However, the Toffees’ financial situation means the door could be open for the box-to-box to depart for around £55million.
