Aston Villa are exploring the possibility of signing Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares on loan, according to recent reports.

Tavares, who joined the north Londoners two years ago, had been in talks with Nottingham Forest over a potential permanent transfer but recent reports have suggested that a move is now off. Now, iNews have reported that his proposed move to the City Ground was going to be £13million.

It is claimed that Villa boss Unai Emery is interested in the Portugal Under-21 international, with a one-year loan move including an option to make the deal permanent a possibility. Emery is said to be keen on Sevilla star Marcos Acuna but he could target Tavares if a deal for the Argentine international ends up falling through.

Bundesliga sides Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg have both made approaches for Tavares this summer, football.london understands. However, the player would prefer to stay in England to play in the Premier League.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that his current squad is bloated, with offloading fringe players a necessity. “They are our players and we have to look after them in the best possible way, and that they are treated in the best possible way,” he told football.london earlier this month.

“It’s true that in certain exercises you have too many players but you have to adapt. It always happens in this window and it’s part of the plan to be flexible and understanding of the situation.”
