Doug King makes Coventry City transfer deadline day admission.

Doug King have revealed that he hopes to get just one more new Coventry City signing by tonight’s 11pm transfer window deadline.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins has wanted at least two more players, requiring a centre-back and central midfielder to complete his new-look squad, but it appears he may have to settle for just one more.

City have been trying to buy Barnsley skipper and defender Liam Kitching and are understood to have had a latest bid of £4million rejected for the player on Thursday.

Asked if he’s hoping to make any last minute signings today, club owner King told BBC CWR: “I think it has been a transitional window when we have had a lot of business to do and it hasn’t been easy. At the last count, if you take Vik and Gus out of our squad, nine have left, 11 have gone and ten have come in, and when you look at it I know the manager looks at numbers and feels he’s a little bit light.

“But in this situation it’s easy to rush in and get the wrong people at your club and when you have got the wrong people in it’s hard to get them out, so for me, everyone who comes to the club needs to be worthy of coming to this club at this point. We have to want them for the long term and help us to get us to where we need to go.

“And I am really happy with what we have done in a hugely pivotal transitional window, getting in the quality of personal that we have got. There are always bits and pieces around the fringes.”

Appearing to allude to the Kitching deal, King said: “In this game, as I have learned and found out but as I know from doing a lot of commercial trading activity, you can only do something if someone wants to sell to you at an appropriate level or you risk doing silly things that you don’t want to do.
