Jürgen Klopp is a candidate for the open position of Germany national team coach. The Liverpool manager won’t go anywhere for sure, but his successor may already be in the Premier League.
Over the course of the weekend, Wataru End impressed his national team a lot. The Asian midfielder, who earlier this summer switched from Stuttgart to Liverpool, captained Japan against Germany in a friendly match. Throughout the match, he shown his ability to be a disciplined and efficient defensive presence in the middle of the park.
End led his national team to a convincing 4-1 victory over their opponents after 90 minutes of play, with German manager Hansi Flick having problems after the match. Since the summer of 2021, the former Bayern Munich manager has been in control on the international scene. However, shortly after his team’s defeat to Japan, he was removed of his duties.
Germany is currently looking for a replacement for Flick, with Jürgen Klopp likely to be near the top of the shortlist as is customary whenever a significant position arises from within his native country. As soon as word of Flick’s dismissal spread, odds on the Liverpool manager succeeding him fell precipitously.
In fact, after Flick was fired, several bookmakers cut the odds on Klopp taking over as Germany’s manager in half, although the Reds’ head coach doesn’t look likely to be departing anytime soon. In an interview with Sky in Germany a few months back, he made this statement.
Since Klopp has a contract at Anfield through 2026, unless something incredibly extraordinary occurs in the three years between now and then, he will stay on Merseyside until the end of his term. Reds fans like the 56-year-old so much that he was even formally given the Freedom of the City of Liverpool last year.
Klopp won’t be leaving anytime soon, so supporters can rest easy, but it’s important to remember that he won’t be in control for eternity. To make sure that the Reds can deal with his loss without him, it is essential that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have a strategy for his eventual exit.
