Montgomery, the new Hibs manager, will succeed in Scotland: Ange
Ange Postecoglou complimented Hibernian for looking to Australia for their new head coach and encouraged Nick Montgomery to succeed at Easter Road.
Montgomery, who managed Central Coast Mariners to a decisive grand slam victory over Melbourne City last season, followed in Postecoglou’s footsteps by capturing the A-League championship.
The former Sheffield United player is currently in the Premier League after following a similar path to former Celtic manager Postecoglou. His first game will be Hibs’ trip to Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Nick has done excellently in Australia, according to Tottenham’s manager, who has won the Barclays Manager of the Month title for the Premier League at the first attempt.
“He did a terrific job at a club that won the entire thing last year, which is fair to say in Australia is not one of the big ones.
“He has done it in a fantastic way, developing young players and it’s terrific he gets the chance.
“I am happy that candidates, whether they are on their doorstep or on the other side of the planet, are being considered beyond the obvious.
“I am confident that he will succeed.”
“Hibs is a terrific club, in my opinion. I recall from my time there that it is a sizable club. When you play them, you feel like they are a major team with a chance to establish themselves in the Premier League and the European game.
“I’m so happy for Nick; I know he’ll do that.”
