An alternative history of Leicester City talking of Ice Kings and Gary Lineker as we bring on Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers will go down in club history as one of the best managers after leading Leicester into the Europa Conference Semi-Final and winning the FA Cup and Community Shield.

He achieved record transfer sales as a result of having to say goodbye to Harry Maguire in his first season, then Ben Chilwell, and ultimately Wesley Fofana last summer.

This and the club’s messages to other players like James Maddison and Youri Tielemans were reflected in the fact that Leicester frequently expresses interest in offloading its key assets.

Brendan Rodgers sack talk latest: Eye-watering compensation cost emerges as Thomas Frank responds to Leicester rumoursIt was unable to get other players to sign long-term contracts due to the constant situation of player sales for high payments, and this policy ultimately led to relegation and a complete turnover in the player pool.

With a long list of players whose contracts expire next summer, Leicester are still in transition, and more sales will take place in January. Hopefully, some type of control will be in place to prevent more issues.

After Wesley Fofana left, Brendan Rodgers added Wout Faes to the team. Faes has performed admirably during his time at Leicester and appears to be gaining momentum for Belgium’s next World Cup campaign.

Brendan Rodgers never relegated Leicester, Dean Smith did. Smith is out of work, so are Craig Shakespeare, and John Terry who were also taken on board in this interim set up, ended up back at Chelsea coaching in the acadmey. Brendan Rodgers is back at Celtic, playing in Champions League, despite a difficult start, ending their first game against Feyenoord away with just 9 players, as two players were send off, and the Dutch team winning 2-0.

Some ment that Brendan Rodgers should have gone before, also having difficulties to understand his strategy towards players that decided against signing new deals as it all became unacceptable for people like, Caglar Soyuncu and Ayoze Perez, not being on level terms with Brendan Rodgers.

Dean Smith arrived and changed the schene a bit, bringing back Caglar Soyuncu, and also giving Bouba Soumare a lot of trust, looking at it in perspective, it did not change much, both players are no longer at the club and Leicester are in the Championship.

So what would have happened if Brendan Rodgers had been sitting and given the chance to run this club further, building on those two wins in February vs. Aston Villa and Spurs, putting both of them to slaughter. It was two magnificant performances, seeing Soyuncu being brought on as a sub, and playing some of the best football ever seen under his time in management.

The opposing managers were Unai Emery and Antonio Conte, and when you put it in perspective, you realize how great a run the Spaniard had toward the end of the season before getting pummeled at home by Brendan Rodgers.

Football is brutal, and as Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester team faltered, everything became very metaphorical for him. But would he have taken Leicester down? I don’t think so. He would have remained true to his principles and, ideally, forged relationships with the players that would have led to a victory.
