Newcastle United are constantly linked with some of the most exciting young players in Europe these days.
With the PIF era (so far at least) not being defined by Newcastle signing big name and fading superstars simply for the sake of it as many might have expected, it is the young breed of talent who are touted with a move to the club.
The likes of Sven Botman, Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali all have so much of their careers ahead of them but are still experienced enough to have – by and large – hit the ground running.
Clearly a buying policy Newcastle have focused on since the takeover, it makes previous links with a move for Benjamin Sesko make sense.
The 20-year-old was touted as a target in the summer of 2022 while still a Red Bull Salzburg player and those links continued in April of this year before he officially joined RB Leipzig for a reported £55m.
Now, he’s spoken of the potential of playing in England.
Benjamin Sesko addresses Premier League move
Indeed, speaking to the Daily Telegraph, the forward opened up on the idea of joining a Premier League club one day.
“It’s hard to say what will happen, you know?” he says. “I could be great or not that great! Of course, it would be nice to play there but first of all let’s focus on right now.”
Newcastle should be considering striker targets already
Though Isak and Gordon have produced the goods in front of goal this season, long-term investment in the attack would be a wise decision from the club.
Callum Wilson currently looks as reliable in front of goal as ever but the England forward cannot keep going at the top level forever. Already over 30 and with a troublesome injury record, at some point he’s going to need to be replaced.
With that in mind, keeping across the development of players like Sesko makes a lot of sense.
