The search for another centre-back continues for Newcastle United who have now turned their attention towards David Hancko from Feyenoord.

A report in Calciomercato in Italy have thrown Newcastle‘s name into the blender when it comes to interest in Eredivisie champions Feyenoord‘s 25-year-old defender, David Hancko.

Napoli are looking at Hancko as a replacement for Kim Min-Jae who looks to be on his way to Bayern Munich, but the report goes on to say that Newcastle, along with a couple of other unnamed Premier League clubs have ‘certified’ interest in Hancko.

Hancko had 10 goal involvements last season for Feyenoord

Newcastle definitely want another centre-back as cover and eventual replacement for Fabian Schar, however while Hancko is left-footed like Sven Botman and Dan Burn. He’s even played at left-back for Feyenoord, so he’s not a like-for-like replacement for Schar.

That doesn’t automatically rule him out as a potential target however, as he’s shown last season at Feyenoord that he is versatile and even played on the right-side of centre for the Dutch side.

Away from the issue of which foot he favours, Hancko would be a superb addition to Newcastle’s rapidly improving squad. Fabrizio Romano identified Hancko as one to watch this window on a Here We Scout YouTube video, saying: “What a season for him and Feyenoord. Really fantastic.

“Ten goals involvement in all competitions. Not bad at all if you are a centre-back.

“Consistency has been really key for him.”

Newcastle could snap up Hancko for just £21.5million

With 10 goal involvements he sounds very much like a Fabian Schar type defender, one who likes to roam forward when they can.

He could be available for just €30million (£26million) which sounds like a great price for someone of his quality given current market values. There’s even a suggestion that a bid of €25million (£21.5million) could seal the deal.

If Newcastle were to sign David Hancko he’d have an international teammate waiting to welcome him in fellow Slovakian Martin Dubravka, who could potentially grease the wheels for Newcastle.
