‘Outstanding’ 23-year-old wants to leave for UCL club after Newcastle show interest.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Jesper Lindstrom this summer, and a move to St James’ Park could potentially be very appealing to the Eintracht Frankfurt star.

The Magpies are taking their attacking midfielder search elsewhere after missing out on James Maddison and Dominik Szoboszlai, with the club decided that neither was essential and that their transfer budget could be put to better use.

While it is disappointing, it is a sensible decision from Newcastle, who could land a cheaper and equally as exciting alternative from the Bundesliga.

Eddie Howe’s side are reportedly keen on Lindstrom, who has been with Frankfurt for the past two seasons. It has been claimed in Germany that The Eagles want as much as £34million for the 23-year-old. That would make him cheaper than £40million Maddison and £60million Szoboszlai.

The price tag is appealing, and a new report suggests that St James’ Park could be an ideal destination for Lindstrom.

Jesper Lindstrom wants Champions League move

According to Football Transfers, Lindstrom wants to leave Frankfurt this summer. They state that he wants to join a club that is going to be competing in the Champions League next season.

That is good news for Newcastle, as last season’s fourth place finish means that we will be taking part in Europe’s elite competition for the first time in 20 years.

Lindstrom looks like the right type of signing for Newcastle. At 23 he is a similar age to our other major signings, who have arrived on Tyneside as really talented footballers who are far from the finished article.

The Denmark international can also play in multiple positions, which would appeal to Howe. Lindstrom is predominantly an attacking midfielder, but he can also be utilised on the left or right of attack.

As it stands, it is only the German media that have linked Newcastle with a move for the ‘outstanding‘ player, so it will be interesting to see if his name crops up in the English gossip columns in the coming days and weeks.

But Football Transfers believe that Lindstrom wants to join a Champions League club, which is exactly what Newcastle will be in the 2023/24 season.
